23 Dec 2001 - Bryngwyn Matters Number 24 December 2001
CEWC Conference
Research, rhetoric and reasoned discussion were all features of Council for Education in World Citizenship Conference - a model United Nations General Assembly Meeting held at County Hall, Carmarthen at the end of November.
The dark shadow of September 11th still hung over the proceedings as Katie Williams, Emily Pullham and Pearl Newton represented South Africal and Jack Felton, David Ellis and Adam Painter sopoke for Croatia. The council intelligently, yet sensitively debated resolutions proposed by Afghanistan related to the refugee crisis in their country and the wider world. In the afternoon, Brazil highlighted poverty in the city.
All the members of the two delegations left the chamber feeling rather older and wiser about serious international affairs.
