28 Mar 2002 - Bryngwyn Wins the Under 16s Rugby Tournament
On Thursday 28th February, during the afternoon the Llanelli schools Under 16 rugby tournament was held at Stradey Park in a mixture of bright sunshine and hailstones.
Although the tournament was intended for two teams per school unfortunately the unplayable condition of Stradey's second pitch meant that only one squad per school was able to participate. Having won the inaugral tournament last year we are delighted to inform you that the winners' shield is remaining at Bryngwyn for another year.
The boys once again played with a lot of flair and displayed an open style of rugby that highly impressed the staff and students of Llanelli Rugby Academy who organised the day and also the many parents present. This attractive style of rugby was particularly evident against Coedcae and Glan Y Mor.
The highlight of the day was when Tom Sweeney came on as a replacement in the final game with one minute remaining and scored with his first touch of the ball. Although Tom was tackled on the half way line he was still able to stretch out and score a try underneath the Glan Y Mor posts!!
The squad consisted of:-
Adam Thomas, Andrew Marzano, Daniel Bowen, Phillip Evans, Jonathon Thomas, James Bonner-Evans, Sam Jenkins (Vice-Captain), Christian McLaughlin, David Ellis, Johan Taffetsauffer, Daniel Evans, Stuart Williams, Steven Joce, Kieran Davies, Darren Bonnell, Ben Cohen, Christian Peel, Leighton Davies, Aled Musselwhite, Ian Gaches, Tom Sweeney and Michael Davies (Captain).
