Year 9 Football News

Match against Tre-Gib Wednesday 30th September 2004

Bryngwyn 3 - 2 Tre-Gib

This was definitely a game of two halves, with victory finally going to a classier outfit.

The Bryngwyn boys were quietly confident before the match after a series of three wins at the end of year 8. Their confidence seemed to be justified for the first 10 minutes as they had much of the possession and squandered a few chances at goal. There was some excellent interplay between midfield and attack, and it seemed Bryngwyn would walk it.

Unfortunately, after one promising attack, possession went to Tre-Gib and they scored a good goal against the run of play. The Bryngwyn boys seemed to loose a bit of control and composure and it wasn't long before Tre-Gib scored a second. The first half finished with Tre-Gib 2 goals up.

A few substitutions at half time seemed to be the key to unlocking the defence of Tre-Gib. Jonathan Thomas came on and had instant impact. The defence seemed to be rock solid in the second half and they proved to be an excellent platform for some really exciting attacking play. It wasn't long before Bryngwyn scored a first followed quickly by a second. Another chance was missed as Bryngwyn hit the post. The game was balanced at 2-2.

After a few more substitutions Bryngwyn pushed for the winner, it came with about 5 minutes remaining. Bryngwyn remained in control till the final whistle and go into the next stage of the cup with one game played and one win. A good start to the year.
