Cymraeg/Welsh Department Year 10 Information

The subject is taught to GCSE and CoEA. Welsh Second Language Level in Years 10 and 11.

The aims of the courses are to ensure that candidates are aware that Wales has its own language, which is an important element in the growth of the society to which they belong and to give pupils first hand experience of the language by familiarising them with its use for different purposes - both socially and in the world of work.

Experiences will be provided which will give every pupil an opportunity to reach a level of fluency according to ability.

We hope to develop the pupil's ability in Welsh for social and employment purposes; to introduce the pupils to language skills, appropriate for further study; to show that the study of Welsh gives enjoyment and satisfaction; to give to the pupils an increasing awareness of the use of the language in modern Wales; to encourage learning skills, and to promote a pupil's ability to move increasingly from one culture to another.
