Pupil groupings

Pupils are taught in two parallel bands in which there is setting across each band.
The two Special Needs classes are taught separately.


What is taught

The Theme for the year is *FAMILY AND AREA*
Sept / Oct - Holidays
Oct / Dec - Tension in the family
Jan / Feb - Pets and other animals
March / April - Pocket money and shopping
May / June - Everyday routine
How progress is assessed

Half termly tests are based on the three attainment targets for Key Stage 3 speaking - 40 %; reading - 20%; writing - 40 %. Pupils are given a mark and national curriculum level on each attainment target
plus an overall percentage. Each pupil also completes a self-assessment sheet every half term.
Homework

Homework is set twice a week. One is usually writing or comprehension. The other could be learning/ research/
revision/spelling.
Other information

Possible ways that parents could help their children include subscribing to a
Welsh learner's magazine such as JAW; purchasing a dictionary such as the
Oxford Welsh Dictionary or Gair I Gall; encouraging children to watch Welsh language programmes with sub-titles - teletext 888 - on S4C, such as Pobl y
Cwm; or listening to 'Catchphrase' on Radio Wales.
