Drama Department Year 10 Information

Drama is a two year GCSE course. The syllabus consists of a range of practical work and the study of two set plays. Theatre visits and the viewing of television plays and films are also necessary for an understanding and appreciation of performance.

Pupils will develop the following :

* an ability to work with others in devising and performing their own dramatic presentation;
* an ability to evaluate their own and other people?s performances;
* an ability to critically review live theatrical presentations;
* an ability to understand the dramatic qualities of plays studied.

Pupils will be assessed on six units:

Unit 1 Coursework Theatre Review (15%)
Unit 2 Coursework devised practical performance (20%)
Unit 3 Courswork project report evaluation (15%)
Unit 4 Coursework working process (10%)
Unit 5 Terminal examination practical performance from a text (20%)
Unit 6 Terminal examination written (20%)

Two set plays are chosen from the following for 2005 onwards:

Shakespeare - As You Like It
Noughton - Spring and Port Wine
Myers - Walking With Shadows
Miller - a View from the Bridge
Whittington - Be My Baby
