Information Communication Technology Year 7 Information

PUPIL GROUPINGS

Pupils are taught in mixed ability groups except for those who have particular special needs.

What is taught

Pupils follow the National Curriculum at an appropriate level. During the first year of study the pupils cover wordprocessing, desktop publishing, spreadsheet, database, and graphics and presentation packages. Pupils learn to import digital images, clipart and use scanners. They learn about the different hardware and software available, health and safety issues, and the uses of computers in society. The use of internet e-mail charts, formulae and functions as well as control features are also covered.
Homework

Pupils have homework every other week. Tasks range from learning for tests to preparing data for input onto computers during the lesson. It is not essential for pupils to have their own computer at home - we have computers available for children to use at lunchtime and after school - but they are welcome to use their home computers if they so wish. The school uses "Microsoft" as its basic software programme, with Serif Page Plus 6 for Desk Top Publishing and we also have and we also have "Lotus Smartsuite".

How Progress Is Assured

Pupil printouts of work are assessed, as are written exercises in class and for homework. Basic IT skills are tested at intervals.
