Learning Support Year 8 Information

Pupil groupings

Two smaller special needs classes in year 8 provide a high level of individualised support and guidance for pupils who would benefit from such a provision. We aim to provide a positive and sensitive environment in which all achievement is recognised and all talents
valued.

What is taught?

Pupils follow the National Curriculum at an appropriate level. Our *Corrective Reading Programme* and *Early Bird* reading sessions are used to support work done at home and pupils are given additional help with homework in all subjects.

Homework

Pupils have homework in all subjects as well as paired reading at home.

How progress is assessed

Assessment is ongoing and movement to and from the special needs groupings is on a regular basis as pupils progress is monitored during the year.

Other information

Parents of children receiving special needs support are invited each term to join members of the department for an *Open Afternoon*. They can see the work of the department, examine pupils? work and discuss the progress of their children with the staff concerned.
