Life Skills Year 10 Information

Life skills is offered at CoEA and is an attempt at examining and becoming aware of issues within society. Pupils can then deal with these issues and problems through the acquiring of social and life skills.

Content

The course consists of a compulsory core element - myself; myself, home and family; myself and relationships; myself and my community and myself and the world of work, and a choice of one optional module.

The main themes of the option module are:

a) Leisure, Holiday and Pastimes - the role of leisure in society, a case study and practical participation.

b) Health Education - healthy living, healthy eating, first aid, drug abuse, smoking, Aids, etc.

c) Care in the Community - services provided for the elderly and the handicapped, voluntary work, together with a community placement.

d) Citizenship - a more in-depth appreciation of "citizenship" - and what it means to be a "citizen".

e) A school based initiative - as an alternative to the other modules, school may devise their own initiatives.

Assessment.

This is school-based and consists of continuous assessment with oral tests, a project, a case study, end of module tests and a period of out of school placement on work experience.

The Core carries 80% of the marks. The option module carries 20% of the marks.
