Media Studies Department Year 10 Information
During the two-year course pupils will learn how to analyse, design and produce work for a wide range of different media including film, television, computers, radio, popular music, comics, magazines and advertising.
The media studies course is designed to encourage students to:
· demonstrate knowledge and understanding of media organisations and the texts they produce, their relationship to audiences and the variety of ways in which texts can be interpreted;
· identify, describe critically and compare the distinctive features of specific media texts;
· demonstrate knowledge and understanding of media production through engagement with pre-production work;
· present evaluative accounts of their own pre-production and production work.
The three areas studied will be Media Texts, Media Organisations and Media Audiences and pupils will analyse and produce texts for audio-visual media, print based media and ICT media.
Pupils will be assessed by:
Written Examination = 50% (Two and a half hours)
Coursework = 50%
In the final written examination candidates must be entered for one of the following papers:
Paper 1 FOUNDATION TIER Grades C-G
Paper 2 HIGHER TIER Grades A*-D
The areas of study for the written examination in 2007 are:-
Section A Science-fiction film
Section B CD Covers
Candidates will be required to submit three pieces of written coursework. These pieces must be from at least two different media.
One piece must be based on textual analysis, one piece must be based on pre-production and one piece must be based on production.
