Music Department Year 7 Information
Pupil Groupings
Pupils are taught in mixed ability groups except for those who have particular special needs.
What is taught
All pupils study the same themes:
· In term 1: Rhythm and notation followed by Melody and notation.
· In term 2: World Music- Africa, followed by Graphic notation.
· In term 3: Keyboard instruments and Instruments of the orchestra.

Homework is research based and set mostly at the beginning and end of topics.
How progress is assessed
Practical work is recorded onto tape and assessed. Self assessment booklets are completed at the end of each topic.
Other information
Instrumental lessons are offered. Pupils and or parents should inform the school as soon as possible if they wish to undertake additional music lesson as extra-curricular activities. Choirs and instrumental groups will be formed.
