Pupil Groupings
Pupils are taught in mixed ability groups except for those who have particular special needs.
What is taught
Module 1: Community. Pupils study various religious communities in the locality and symbols of major world faiths: baptism as a sign of belonging to a Christian community; the Hindu initiation rite.
Module 2 : Story. Pupils will study the sacred writings of major world faiths, how to use the Bible and the part played by the Bible in trhe worship and life of communities, the Guru Granth Sahib.
Module 3 : People. The person of Jesus Christ and His significance for Christians; Gautama and the teachings of Buddhism; Gandhi as a significant person within Hinduism, and other religios traditions.
Module 4 : Communication. The meanings of 'worship', Christian prayer, Hindu worship.
The work is supported by the text book 'New Steps in Religious Education', books 1, 2 and 3.

Homework
A project on the Local Church will be undertaken during the first half term. For the remainder of the year, homework will be given once a fortnight.
How progress is assessed
Written classwork and homework exercises are followed by end of module tests and end of year examinatioins. Oral contributions to class discussions are also included.
